All-Day Fairfax Spot Yarrow Cafe to Transition Downtown Next Month

That infamous breakfast burrito will still be available

Fairfax’s casual all-day spot Yarrow Cafe is on the move, simultaneously lightening its footprint at its current location while expanding its presence in Downtown.

Per chef/owner Royce Burke, August 1 will be Yarrow’s last full day along Fairfax. The attached yoga studio Hyperslow, which has always had the primary lease on the property, is expanding into the cafe side as its own business grows, leaving Burke to find another home for his well-received coffee, breakfast burrito, and vegetarian-friendly daytime menu. Yarrow will remain behind in a limited capacity, there, with grab and go items like salads and grain bowls still being sold inside the yoga studio moving forward.

Instead, Burke will focus his efforts on tuning Yarrow’s year-old menu in to a new vibe inside of Cognoscenti Coffee on San Julian in the Fashion District, at the City Market South development. Burke tells Eater that the plan is to “provide full food service, including some locally-sourced meat options” in the coming weeks, with a plan to eventually expand to the Olive Street location of Cognoscenti Coffee as well.

The move leaves just over one week for Fairfax fans to see Burke and his crew at the Yarrow there. The transition to the Fashion District location should be operational by August 5, with Burke — who also operated Chinatown pop-up Secret Lasagna for a time — promising more restaurant news in the near future.
