It’s been a challenging time for Inglewood’s Ms. B’s M & M Soul Food. The landlord is keen to sell the building, which can typically mean a restaurant’s final days are near. But Ms. B’s owner confirmed to Eater LA that a second location will soon open in Hawthorne. And if all goes well, September 1 is the opening date.
Owner Beverly Brinson says the original location will remain open for now, though it’s still unclear whether she can work out issues with her Inglewood landlord. The same landlord suggested Brinson take on a month-to-month lease while the owner fields offers for the building. In the face of this uncertainty, Brinson looked at potential new locations for over a year, and finally found one directly on the border of Inglewood and Hawthorne. Ms. B’s number two will open in the former Charly’s on West Imperial Highway with the same Southern food menu.
Toddrickallen first spotted the sign in Hawthorne. Ms. B’s Inglewood location is only blocks away from the forthcoming NFL stadium, and Brinson plans to operate both. The Inglewood location is primed for plenty of new traffic, since the $5 billion stadium should be finished in 2020. Ms B’s is the few longstanding restaurants next to the stadium that hope to remain and reap extra revenue from future football games, concerts, and events.
