With the minimalist bar Lowboy downstairs and the perfectly vintage Adamae also sharing space in the former Lost Knight/Barragan’s building, the final part of the puzzle comes to life with Bar Flores, which opened last Saturday in Echo Park. Situated upstairs with a wonderful view of Sunset Boulevard, plus a bonus hideaway patio in the back, Bar Flores comes just in time for the dog days of LA summer. Karla Flores-Mercado, who founded the cocktail pop-up Sip LA, compiles a mostly woman bartender team in one of LA’s most wonderful new bars.

Drinks focus mostly on things folks can enjoy during the day, with a bright orange mezcal cocktail with Valencia orange and carrot with big ice cubes. The gorgeous Tiki cocktail uses Mexican rum and Jamaican rums with absinthe, pomegranate, and fresh pineapple with an orchid garnish. A stirred pisco cocktail mixes Cocchi Americano and vermouth while the green Gin Sour uses jicama juice, cucumber, ginger, and Thai basil to round it out. Food also comes from the Lowboy/Adamae kitchen with Karla’s father designing the menu, while a portrait of Flores-Mercado’s grandmother sits above the bar. For anyone looking for a deal, Bar Flores will soon offer $5 margaritas on tap on Wednesday nights as a nod to its Barragan’s past. Open daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
