No longer around

Shoppers can finally rest easy, as gourmet Italian marketplace Eataly (with locations in Century City, Las Vegas, and beyond) has officially cut ties with Mario Batali. The disgraced celebrity chef had retained his minority stake some two years after sexual misconduct allegations first came to light. Batali has been little seen in public since 2017, and he finally finished divesting from his other restaurant ventures with partner Joe Bastianich several months back. In May, Batali pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal indecent assault and battery, and is out on bail. He faces a new hearing on August 30.

60 years strong

The Red Lion Tavern in Silver Lake is celebrating 60 years with a bunch of throwback prices. Today and tomorrow there’s a reduced-price, old school menu on offer from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and over the weekend there are beer samples, stein fills, and food deals galore.

More than just coffee

Two Guns Kitchen is now open at 601 S. Figueroa. The cafe offshoot of the popular South Bay coffee shop does everyday basics like salads, sandwiches, and breakfast food from a 1,600 square foot space meant to appeal mostly to workers nearby.

Meat season

Smorgasburg’s 4th annual barbecue event goes down this weekend, featuring some of the best in the city from Moo’s Craft Barbecue to Flatpoint BBQ and beyond, plus the usual suspects like Ugly Drum.

Burger Throwdown

LA Food & Wine is back this weekend, and as part of the multi-day celebration Alvin Cailan will be in town with a few celebrity friends cooking up a ton of burgers. Expect a bunch of local burger restaurants and pop-ups to be in attendance as well.

Fightin’ words

Speaking of burgers, LA Taco says it has found a suitable local replacement for Southern California chain In-N-Out, and it’s hiding out in Downey. The old school spot is called Nexx Burger, and it feels as classic as the original drive thrus of days gone by.

Very cool drinks

The Bazaar has a new upscale cocktail experience to know about. It’s called Bazaar Flight at Gate: Bar Centro, and per LA Magazine it’s a magical twelve-course highly inventive drinking experience complete with some bar snacks, starting September 13.
