Goodbye for good

Burbank’s Market City Caffe has closed after 27 years, meaning the San Fernando Valley city has lost one of its better casual options for wood-fired pizzas, handmade ravioli, and all-day basics like sandwiches and salads. The Italian-leaning Palm Avenue restaurant posted a goodbye notice to its front door that was spotted this week by a local tipster. The long letter thanks customers and staff alike, and offers a sincere “thank you and goodbye” to all involved.

Trying to move on

There’s been an update of sorts on the future of Las Perlas following a negative incident with two transgender customers that went viral over the weekend. Per LA Magazine, West Hollywood mayor John D’Amico says that the company will face “a rougher road ahead” if they don’t reach out and make amends with the LGBTQIA community of West Hollywood before opening in the former Barbette space. No word yet on what that outreach may look like.

Prime time

Signage is up for Prime Pizza in the Valley. The former Taste of Chicago space is apparently tracking for an opening sometime in October.

Give-back season

Santa Monica’s Board & Brush, which lets customers show up and create a custom wooden sign by hand while drinking wine, is doing a charity event on Saturday, September 14. The one-off evening benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of greater LA, and possible attendees are advised to sign up early.

The Trejo way

Danny Trejo is talking up expansion plans for his restaurant group over at Food & Wine. The longtime actor already has multiple locations, a hot sauce line, a craft beer line, and even helped to save a kid from a car wreck earlier this month, but he’s keeping his eye on in-house expansion with possible new locations across the nation.

Development deals

Long Beach’s 2nd & PCH development is coming along nicely, adding retail shops like Warby Parker and Lululemon along with a variety of food tenants such at Noble Bird Rotisserie, Otosan Japanese food, Urban Plates, and more. The plan is to open this fall.

Noodle alert

A new Buena Park ramen shop is giving away 100 free bowls of noodles on September 3. The shop at 10488 Valley View St. will split the free bowls between lunch and dinner, as detailed below.
