New drinks

Cypress Park is getting a hip new bar, thanks to the folks from Permanent Records. That’s per TimeOut LA, who say that the closing Cafe NELA will instead flip into the vinyl vendor’s hands and become not only a place to drink, but also to buy more stuff, and to watch live shows. Right now, the company is targeting an October 1 arrival.

Westside meals

Chengdu, China restaurant Mi Xun is popping up at Matthew Kenney’s Plant Food + Wine in Venice from August 12 to 18. The vegan Sichuan restaurant will offer a publicly-available collaborative set menu. Reservations are now open.

Free food

Heads up, Highland Park: Here come some free tacos. Smorgasburg vendor Mideast Tacos is starting a new weekly service at 5300 York Boulevard, and on August 9 they’ll be giving away two free tacos to the first 25 people in line.

All of the meals

LA Times critic Bill Addison took nearly three days to dine out with cookbook author Anissa Helou at some of the city’s most famed Persian restaurants. The two tackled 18 places in total, and come away with a few key surprises, particularly about stalwarts in the genre like Raffi’s Place.

Noodle mayhem

Marugame Udon has opened at South Coast Plaza. The popular Japanese noodle shop arrived last Saturday as part of a growing number of new eateries at the busy shopping plaza, and now keeps 11 a.m. daily service on level 1.

Changing times

Whole Foods is coming to West Adams soon. That’s per Curbed LA, who note that the upcoming Cumulus project will now prominently feature the upscale Amazon-owned grocer.

A proper party

Super Frites is popping up at Bar and Garden in Culver City next weekend, hosting a french fries and champagne soiree in the afternoon.
