Add another name

Downtown’s Mexican food scene has another new entrant, as local chain Pinches Tacos has opened at 610 W. 6th Street. This is the eighth location for the Anaya-family-owned local chain, and features tall ceilings, lots of brick, and a menu that spans from breakfast to 3 a.m. service hours on Friday and Saturday.

Be safe out there

A car crashed into a busy restaurant strip mall in Westlake on Sunday night, reports the LA Times. Per the paper, a sudden crash occurred at Flor Blanca restaurant, sending five people to the hospital, three of them in critical condition.

Gonna be a while

Glendora’s upcoming food hall looks quite a ways off from actually opening, despite the announcement of some big tenants like Smog City Brewing. According to this Instagram post the plumbing isn’t in yet, so expect something well into 2020 at the earliest.

Sushi for the masses

Kura Sushi has signed on for a new location in Koreatown. The popular conveyor belt sushi chain (not to be confused with Kura in West Hollywood) has secured a deal for some real estate at 3150 Wilshire Boulevard.

Super cool

TimeOut has compiled a list of the coolest neighborhoods in the world, adding Historic Filipinotown to the mix. The area is “propping up its own” restaurants, art stops, and bars, says TimeOut, instead of letting corporate interests take control.

Comedy connection

The indie comedy scene is thriving in Los Angeles, reports Los Angeles Magazine, thanks in no small part to a collection of cool restaurants’ From Meea’s Hot Dogs in Eagle Rock to Melody Wine Bar in Virgil Village and Genghis Cohen on Fairfax, the fusion of food and funny is alive and well.

Party season

It’s Oktoberfest celebration season already, and a number of drinking spots from Santa Monica Brew Works to Art’s Table are getting in on the action. The main party goes down at Art’s this Friday, though the restaurant is also doing German food through October 13.
