Bad news for New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman: Not only did the star NFL player, three-time Super Bowl winner, and former Super Bowl MVP see his dynastic team get bounced early in the playoffs this year, it seems Edelman himself almost got bounced to jail over the weekend.

Edelman was arrested at around 9 p.m. on Saturday night, per TMZ, after jumping on the hood of a car and causing damage. Police in the area responded quickly and reportedly arrested Edelman, handing him a citation for misdemeanor vandalism in the process. Edelman was not taken away in handcuffs, and was released from the scene thereafter. Per TMZ: “Our law enforcement sources say it was apparent to them Julian had been drinking.”

It seems that Edelman had been hanging out during the day with former Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce and fellow NFL wide receiver (and former teammate) Danny Amendola at Cantina Frida on Beverly Drive. Pierce shared a photo of the trio at the restaurant, which is on the same block where Edelman’s arrest occurred, around the time that Edelman was apprehended.

While the photo itself, which tagged the restaurant’s location, was posted after the arrest, Pierce appeared to confirm that the group had been hanging out at the restaurant just minutes before things went south outside. When asked on Instagram about the timing between the photo of the group at the restaurant and the arrest, Pierce appeared to reply that the restaurant photo was taken “like minutes before,” adding “street cred through the roof now”. Edelman has not publicly responded on his social media channels, or with a statement.
