Fresh faces
Hit Downtown weekend food fair Smorgasburg is coming back stronger than ever in 2020. The Sunday event already draws thousands and thousands of revelers who come out to try different food stalls and to shop, and this year they’ve added even more vendors to the mix. Per TimeOut LA, the new vendors include Burmese, Please from chef Jessie Nicely; hand-pulled noodle specialists Chinese Laundry (which was actually an opening vendor at Smorg years ago); Dante’s Fried Chicken; Los Cochinitos for carnitas; Paratta for Desi specialities and flaky namesake paratta; and Mano Po, a Filipino stand from the Lobsterdamus team. Smorgasburg returns this weekend.
OC newcomer
Scarlet Kitchen and Lounge is now open at 3086 Gateway Place in Mission Viejo from chef Paige Riordan. Check out the menu here.
Always Howlin’
Business Insider spent a few hours in the Howlin’ Ray’s line, and walked away convinced that the place may serve one of the best chicken sandwiches anywhere, but the real love goes to the always-energetic staff.
Tacos 2020
Bee Taqueria earned some love as one of the best new openings of 2019 over on InsideHook.
Seafood delights
Gingergrass Silver Lake’s annual crab celebration is back, which means loads of classic Vietnamese crab dishes including a riff on the famous Crustacean garlic crab noodles.
Golden by the beach
Golden Road Brewing’s new taproom is now open at 16390 Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, keeping hours from 11 a.m. to midnight or later daily. Beyond beers, the food menu includes everything from garlic knots and pizza fries to crab cakes, burgers, and sandwiches.
