Some two dozen Thai Town area restaurants are currently participating in a joint discount menu, offering staple dishes from each restaurant for only $5 apiece. The initiative, put forth by the Thai Town Council of Los Angeles is meant as a way to entice diners to continue to patronize the restaurants during the slowdown caused by the current coronavirus pandemic. The deal is for direct pickup only, though, meaning no delivery.

Some of the East Hollywood cultural neighborhood’s most prominent restaurants are participating in the ongoing $5 deal, which has been running since March 28 and goes through this Sunday, April 19. Those restaurants include Pa Ord, Lacha Somtum, Sanamluang Cafe, and Sapp Coffee Shop. For the latter, $5 dishes include pad see ew and chili garlic with basil over rice, a meat dish offered with pork, chicken, or beef.

Restaurants all over Los Angeles have been thinking collectively for ways to keep their heads above water during the current COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturn, and physical distancing measures put in place by state officials. Many have become ad hoc grocery stores or have completely switched up their menus to offer something affordable, easy, and satisfying for takeout and delivery during this time. See below for a full list of participating Thai Town restaurants.
