Long Beach native and longtime Restauration chef Philip Pretty is expanding into the sandwich genre, opening Heritage Sandwich Shop with his sister, fellow restaurateur Lauren Pretty. The pair’s new standalone restaurant will open for takeaway and outdoor dining this Saturday.
Heritage Sandwich Shop lands at 2032 E. 7th Street in the home of a former coffee shop and, before that, taqueria. The Craftsman building boasts patio seating on a strip of lawn to one side, and a comfortable if spare light green interior for the days when everyone is allowed to eat inside again.
Pretty is no stranger to sandwiches, having run the kitchen at Fundamental in Los Angeles for years before moving back home to his native Long Beach with the opening of Restauration. That restaurant on Retro Row has had an up and down tenure, most notably suffering from a large building fire back in 2018. At Heritage, expect options from salads and starters to a brisket sandwich with meat smoked in-house, and a fried halibut sandwich, among others.
Both the Prettys say that Heritage Sandwich Shop is the first in a duo of restaurants to come for them in Long Beach. Expect an official opening this weekend, with hours running Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
