The coronavirus has oddly been a boon for some far-flung restaurants, particularly in sunny Malibu, as folks spend their quarantine days driving out to see the sun, surf, and sand. Now a newcomer is emerging in the neighborhood in the former Mr. Chow space, with plans to take add some steakhouse decadence to the ritzy area.

Lucky’s Steakhouse is likely familiar to anyone who has dined in Montecito, the tony community just south of Santa Barbara. Lucky’s has long been a favorite haunt up the coast, and now reps for the restaurant say an opening in the Malibu Country Mart will happen this fall. There’s already a website and an Instagram account pinned to the address at 3835 Cross Creek Road, with a planned arrival just a couple of months away, at most.

Much like the Montecito original, this Lucky’s will focus on steakhouse classics like $26 shrimp cocktail appetizers, all manner of steak and chops, and seafood like Dover sole, sauteed sand dabs, and more. The former tenant, Mr. Chow, expanded from Beverly Hills to Malibu in 2012 serving more upscale Chinese food before closing back in January.
