Chef Vartan Abgaryan and his partners at Yours Truly have come together for a new al fresco dining experience in Venice. The group, including partner Dave Reiss and New School’s Paul Pruitt, are opening an all-outdoor restaurant called Post Script in the parking lot of Reiss’s bar the Brig, with plans for lots of live-fire cooking and a rotating menu of dishes that speak to the bounty of California and the cleverness of Abgaryan.
Reached by phone, Pruitt tells Eater that Post Script will be a casual dinner hangout with a painted floor, lots of plants, a large tent overhead, and an ocean breeze wafting in from the open sides. A large wood-fired grill will sit at one end, where Abgaryan will preside over a menu of grilled meats and simple summer salads and more, along with a food truck for plating and finishing dishes. Prep will be done in the Yours Truly space during the day, as that restaurant remains closed. The Brig, meanwhile, is no stranger to outdoor eating, having helped to spur the modern food truck movement a decade ago by hosting the Kogi truck and others early in their tenure.
“Financially it wouldn’t make sense to just do sidewalk seating at Yours Truly,” Abgaryan tells the LA Times, though Pruitt tells Eater that the plan is to reopen YT in the coming weeks as well. Post Script should be ready for service by mid-September at 1515 Abbot Kinney Boulevard. The group also operate Nueva on the Marina del Rey and Venice border, which opened earlier this month.
