Here’s some surprise news to cap off this week: Chef Stephanie Izard — who opened Girl and the Goat in the Arts District last June — and Chicago’s Boka Restaurant Group will open a new restaurant at the Hoxton Hotel’s rooftop in Downtown LA. The West Coast location will take on a slight variation from the original Chicago location, called Cabra Los Angeles.
Izard is one of Chicago’s most popular chefs, known for her successes on Top Chef and Iron Chef. Girl and the Goat is already a popular spot after less than four months of operation. One could describe Izard and Boka’s initiatives as a bold entry into the Los Angeles market, or perhaps the timing is right for them as the team takes over the former Pilot space at the Hoxton.
A Chicago restaurant critic described Chicago’s Cabra as “just good fun to enjoy.” When complete, Cabra Los Angeles will include Peruvian dishes similar to the Chicago location with Izard’s style of shareable dishes that take flavors from around the world — whether successful or not. She’ll pair them with a cocktail list that will undoubtedly dazzle on the Hoxton’s open rooftop. There’s a quick turnaround at play, with Cabra Los Angeles scheduled to open in December 2021. More to follow on this story as it becomes available.
