Great news for fish fans: the former Ramen Bangaichi at 4339 Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake is now Kenbey, a Japanese sushi restaurant from chef Kenji Koyama. The surprise opening is just a few days old, but there are already big ramifications for the neighborhood’s growing sushi scene, considering Sunset Sushi is across the street and Kombu Sushi is just down the street, as is Osen Izakaya — and that’s to say nothing of Michelin-rated Morihiro over in Atwater. Fans will know chef Koyama’s work from Necco, his longtime health-conscious West LA Japanese restaurant beloved by by many, including (according to the New York Times) the singer Lorde. Expect a rotating menu that includes vegan-friendly options.
Every day Italian
Melrose Italian destination Ronan started everyday service last night, and now every Monday moving forward will mean half-priced margherita pizzas and $40 mezcal margarita pitchers.
Let’s get Jolli
The long-awaited Alhambra location of Filipino fast food chain Jollibee is now open at 347 E. Main Street; expect long lines (of people and cars) in these early days.
And more seats for eating
Meanwhile up north, Santa Barbara’s Bettina has reopened its indoor dining room for dinner service, and its bar for walk-in service. Reservations are now available through December on Tock.
Growth across the world
The Nice Guy is opening up in Dubai, marking a third location for the local H.Wood Group brand (their second is in Aspen). The new Middle East location will open next spring inside the Emirates Tower in Dubai. The same group, meanwhile, has also opened a field-level nightclub at LA’s SoFi NFL stadium in Inglewood.
And a party closer to home
Whittier’s Uptown Provisions is hosting a Día de Los Muertos party on Wednesday, November 3 with the folks from pizza pop-up Speak Cheesy. Expect free drinks, face painting for the kids, and more.
