It’s busy days in Beverly Hills right now, especially for those Westside-ish folks who really, really need to spend their money at places run (or at least financed) by celebrities. Move over, Salt Bae, Tatel is here.
When it comes to pure star power it’s hard to outshine Spanish import Tatel, which is backed by Laker champion Pau Gasol, tennis star Rafael Nadal, and soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo, among others. Nadal is a primary investor along with partners Manuel Campos Guallar and Abel Matutes Prats, who together make up Mabel Hospitality, the force behind Tatel. The restaurant has proven to be massively popular in its native Madrid thanks in part to its celebrity clientele, and for a time even did brisk business in Miami, Florida — and that’s to say nothing of their other location in Ibiza.
So what to expect of this Beverly Hills version, set at 453 N. Canon Drive in the former Nic’s space? Lots of pastel color tones and lively music, for one. Reps for the restaurant tell Eater that the plan is to host live music events every single night, making the bar a prime focus for the large project. On the food front, expect Spanish dishes with a modern touch; think the similarly spendy Avra and its Greek menu, but this time with a Spanish flair.
There is no firm opening date for Tatel just yet, though reps tell Eater that the arrival will come sometime in July. When it does land, some four years after first being announced, expect Tatel to compete with Salt Bae, Catch, Olivetta, Delilah, and others for the all-important celebrity nightlife dollar. Meanwhile, LA’s Spanish food is suddenly on the rise overall, thanks to newcomers like Soulmate, the recently reopened Otoño, and others. Renderings of the new Tatel are below.
