The team behind the Waterfront is opening an intimate supper club to Venice Beach called Winston House starting tomorrow evening, July 29, with owners Corey McGuire and Jake Mathews bringing in Andy Vaughan (Soho House Malibu and Buddakan NYC) to help manage the upscale restaurant and live music venue. McGuire will curate musical guests and has worked with the likes of Billie Eilish, A$AP Ferg, Janelle Monaé, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Bieber in the past. The executive chef is Jared Dowling, who previously designed menus at Habitas resorts, and was the executive chef of Fat Radish in New York City, a popular British restaurant that focused on vegetables and only closed last year after a decade-long run.
The menu at Winston House is sort of classic American fare mixed with mostly Chinese and Japanese ingredients. Think shrimp toast with maple chili glaze, roasted duck tacos, fried chicken nuggets with sansho salt, whole roasted Peking duck with tortillas, and spaghetti bolognese. Truffle steak frites and a good-lookin’ cheeseburger come in as beefy entrees. Drunken cherries soaked in bourbon, maple, and sherry wine vinegar; strawberries and cream; and soft-serve round out the menu with desserts.
Barman Dave Purcell, previously at the Nomad and Melrose Umbrella Co., puts together a ‘90s-inspired cocktail list with modern touches, like a white Russian with coldbrew liquor and macadamia cream (the Dude would approve), or a bay breeze with vodka, blueberry, and pineapple-vanilla blanco vermouth. Once Winston House opens, it’ll serve Thursday to Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. with live music sprinkled throughout the night. Reservations are required and can be made by emailing Reservations@WinstonHouse.com. Proof of vaccination is also required to enter the space.
