LA’s Newest Restaurant Week Features Latino-Owned Businesses

Plus, LA County’s COVID-19 rates continue to drop, and a new Sidecar Doughnuts location for Culver City

From September 28 through October 3, diners can enjoy the Latino Restaurant Association’s Dine Latino Restaurant Week. Similar to Black Restaurant Week and the semi-annual Dine LA (which starts next month), the initiative features a prix fixe meal for a reasonable price while driving awareness and customers toward Latino-owned businesses. Dine Latino features a lengthy list with some familiar names including Amara Cafe & Restaurant in Pasadena, all 12 La Monarca Bakeries, and the 91-year-old La Golondrina in Downtown LA.

Toddrickallen spotted a new chicken restaurant in the Original Farmers Market on Third and Fairfax called Market Chicken, a casual future site for rotisserie chicken, wraps, and salads. He also noted a new Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee coming to Overland and Washington Boulevard in 2022.

More Nashville hot chicken expansion throughout the region

Nashville hot chicken restaurant expansion plans keep rising throughout the region. The LA-based Red Chickz announced the local chain will open 40 locations in California, 25 in Texas, 10 in Nevada, and 10 in Arizona within 18 months, writes What Now Los Angeles. Last week, rapper/entertainer Drake put a significant investment into the hot chicken game with Dave’s Hot Chicken.

Biggie Smalls and Run-D.M.C.’s Jam Master Jay mural

Tyra Myricks, daughter of rap legend Jam Master Jay from Run-D.M.C., partnered with Biggie Smalls’ daughter Tyanna Wallace to open Juicy Pizza last May. Local artist Shakir Manners completed a mural of the slain hip hop legends this week. It’s a stunning tribute, so take a look.
