West Hollywood has a new-ish cocktail bar called Holy Water. You might be familiar with the founders: actor Woody Harrelson, TV show host Bill Maher, and former tennis star John McEnroe. Holy Water shares a wall with the cannabis consumption lounge and retail shop the Woods, which Harrelson and Maher opened in 2022. Note: cannabis consumption is not allowed in the cocktail bar.

Though this bar has been in the works for years, the trio kept the late-October opening quiet while staff nailed down service. There are a handful of wines from California, Italy, France, and one from Maryland while $8 and $9 beers hail from both local and global producers. But this is a cocktail bar in a moody, low-lit room, so let’s get to it.

The room fits approximately 30 people, so intimate would be the best description with banquettes, high-top tables, couches, beautiful sets of lamps hanging from every corner. The bar is made with reclaimed wood. Each cocktail is $16 and there are only six on the menu. A zero-proof option is available, as well as one called the Screaming Viking with Hijos De Zoila mezcal, Mujen shochu, Pernod, cucumber, agave, and lime. One of the more simple offerings is the Autumn Drives mixing spiced Rittenhouse rye, amaro, and organic date syrup. But the dramatic Glass Half Full cocktail will certainly fill Instagram feeds with its custom glass and citrus holder which comes filled with Harmony gin, a non-alcoholic botanical called Optimist, aromatized wine, and elderflower.
