Great news for coffee lovers on the west side. Not only is there Caffe Luxxe on Montana, and Intelligentsia on Abbot Kinney (plus Blue Bottle Coffee for sale at Equator Books just down the block), now Espresso Cielo has sprouted on Main Street serving 49th Parallel coffee from Canada. Though there is still no sign outside, Espresso Cielo soft opened a "few weeks" ago according to owner Diane Maler and the cafe is still in that soft open mode. Realizing that Los Angeles needed more high quality coffee, she and her husband decided to open a cafe, but beforehand they flew to Seattle to get trained as baristas and discovered 49th Parallel coffee en route. 49th Parallel agreed to let her serve their coffee as long as she agreed to buy all sorts of fancy equipment (which she did) and the 49th Parallel team actually flew out to LA to train all her employees. In addition to expertly prepared brews the cafe doubles as a patisserie selling locally-made pastries from Cake Monkey and Le Pain du Jour, with sandwiches from Breadbar in the works.
