Two years ago chef Casey Lane moved from Portland to Los Angeles, taking over the ill-fated and short lived AK on Abbot Kinney. In its place Lane launched The Tasting Kitchen, a sophisticated yet hip farm-to-table restaurant that fit seamlessly into AK's earthy interior.
On Friday night, during The Taste's Burgers & Beer event, Lane revealed plans to open a new restaurant downtown in the former Angelique Cafe space on Spring. Construction is underway and Lane plans to part doors by New Year's Eve. He describes the new eatery as a "true gastropub" with aesthetics inspired by Old Hollywood. Mixologist John Coltharp (previously of Seven Grand) will shake your cocktail.
AND as if that wasn't enough, word on the street is that Lane will also take over The Tasting Kitchen's neighboring restaurant, Wabi-Sabi, to debut a new spot called Belle Pêche, or Pretty Peach in French. The idea here is to serve a French-Mediterranean menu. No word on timeline for this project.
