Los Angeles has always been a hotbed of culinary ingenuity, from Southern California’s obsession with a unique kind of pastrami to today’s flourishing street food scene and, during the pandemic, its exploding Instagram DM food drops.

One of the most enduring food collaborations in Los Angeles is the “stuff on fries” genre, which weaves seamlessly from classics like Canadian poutine to carne asada fries, Nashville chicken over fries, and even all-vegan jackfruit carnitas. Here now are 15 great examples of loaded fries across Los Angeles, arranged from north to south.

Removed: Animal, Great White Hut, Tommy’s, Howlin’ Ray’s, Oinkster, Taco Spot, Petit Trois

Added: Dirt Dog, Poutine Brothers, Jackfruit Cafe, Bangin’ Buns, Brick and Flour, Kapoor’s Akbar, Fab Hot Dogs, El Bigoton

A number of LA restaurants have resumed outdoor dine-in. However, this article should not be taken as endorsement for dining in, as there are still safety concerns: for updated information on coronavirus cases in your area, please visit the Los Angeles Public Health website. Studies indicate that there is a lower exposure risk when outdoors, but the level of risk involved with patio dining is contingent on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines. Experts indicate restaurant takeout is one of the lowest risk activities in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
