The recent lockdowns around Southern California have certainly put a damper on the holiday season. Fortunately, plenty of LA-area restaurants, bars (and bartenders) are reminding everyone to continue to celebrate the holidays by launching festive winter cocktails for take-home consumption. After all, who’s going to “bah, humbug” batched matcha eggnog or holiday cocktail gift kits with boozy cookies?

This year’s celebrations may look a lot more different and sparse, but that’s only for this year. For now, bring home some holiday cheer for cozy, safe nights in and to support restaurants.

For Britespot chef Weston Ludeke’s “Drunk on Pie” pop-up, Severance’s barman Evan Charest created holiday cocktails. But since Severance has a beer and wine license, its cocktails only feature wine while the Britespot pop-up versions, which are available starting on the 10th, have hard liquor. It’s just a matter of choosing between a “You’re Drunk, Karen” with either vodka or sparkling wine and fortified Chenin Blanc. There is also a sherry eggnog for those who want to take it easy or a three-spirit eggnog for those who don’t.

Big Dave’s Famous Eggnog, from a Lentz family recipe that’s been guarded for three generations, was originally available at Chef David Lentz’s Hungry Cat. But it’s now making its return thanks to AOC, where it can be ordered for takeout or delivery (32 ounces for $42, 16 ounces for $24) til New Year’s Eve. Or for a holiday cocktail with some bite, there’s Rudolph’s Red Negroni, one of former AOC barman Christiaan Rollich’s last creations and featuring his holiday bitters — cinnamon, cloves, wormwood root, lavender, gentian root, and Angelica root allspice.

End the year on a high note with a truffle eggnog crafted by cocktail innovator and bar chef Matthew Biancaniello. He’s taking orders for his unique eggnog offerings ($100-$125 for 750ml), which include a curried amaro eggnog, Ogo seaweed bourbon eggnog, and a chocolate eggnog. But the big splurge is his eggnog with black truffle-infused mezcal and white truffle-infused cream. “It has the smokiness of mezcal, with a sweet, creamy middle with a bright truffle finish,” according to Biancaniello. But it costs $250 for the 750ml. It’s available for pickup in Playa Vista or delivery in L.A. for $20. And, no, it doesn’t come with that emu egg.
