Square One Dining
Though ownership has changed over the years, the overall quality at this beloved East Hollywood breakfast nook (with a delightful patio) has remained the same, which means expert eggs benedict (smoked salmon is an option), and terrific omelets, steel-cut oatmeal, and grits. There's Intelligentsia coffee to boot.
Cora's Coffee Shoppe
Bruce Marder's casual breakfast and lunch spot is the "affordable" way to get access to the ingredients and cooking of next-door Capo, the high-end Italian restaurant. The lovely wrap-around patio suits the high-quality plates coming out of the ktichen, like Wagyu steak & eggs, artichoke tarragon omelette, vegetable frittata, and blueberry buckwheat pancakes.
The former Village Coffee Shop in the Hollywood Hills is now a modern eatery touting farm-fresh produce and chef-driven dishes. The breakfasts are a great place to get acquainted with the place, with plates like ham hock congee, toffee scramble with mushrooms and spinach, and baked brioche french toast.
Casey Lane's elegant gastropub in South Downtown serves pastries like chocolate croissants and bacon cheddar cones, as well as biscuits filled with grilled escarole, roasted tomato, or trout. There's great coffee, pots of tea, and even beignets for a breakfast dessert.
This all-day eatery on West 3rd Street serves a simple breakfast, with items like a breakfast roll filled with bacon, egg, tomato, and braised greens; bircher muesli; and avocado on toast. There's fresh juice, too.
This classic Silver Lake breakfast spot serves the essentials, like the Hangtown fry, corned beef hash, chilaquiles, and chicken-fried steak, to go along with all the usual egg and scramble dishes.
Neal Fraser's enduring all-day restaurant on Beverly still does a respectable breakfast (bld stands for breakfast, lunch and dinner). There's a number of different benedicts, like the Ode to Butterfield's, which is a flat-iron steak with poached eggs and a cabernet hollandaise. The house-made turkey sausage works well in the frittata.
This classy West Hollywood Italian restaurant does inspired dishes like the baked eggs "arrabiata," porchetta ham benedict, panettone French toast (sort of a weird contradiction), and a spinach & pancetta frittata to go along with a slew of fresh juices, tea, and coffee.
Huckleberry Cafe & Bakery
This instant-classic of a bakery and cafe in Santa Monica tends to endless crowds, especially on the weekends. Daily breakfast favorites include the fried egg sandwich, green eggs and ham (using arugula and pesto), brisket hash, and a house-cured salmon platter with all the deli-style fixin's. Of course the pastries and breads along with Verve coffee beverages are available.
Perhaps the most high-end breakfast spot in the city, Farm Shop serves near-perfect versions of dishes like French toast with blueberry marmalade, rolled omelets with soft herbs and fried potatoes, and pastrami & eggs served with green tomato ketchup.
This beloved Century City cafe does great pastries and other quick-bites that work well for office denizens in nearby towers, as well as local Westside residents. The house-cured gravlax, poached eggs, breakfast scrambles with smoked ham & leeks; and homemade granola are good picks.
Feed Body + Soul
This Venice newcomer touting organic food and a healthy approach does an amazing acai bowl that works in acai, strawberry, blueberry, orange, red grapes, bananas and raw agave. Other breakfast bowls include the quinoa, with chia seeds, rice milk, honey, and virgin coconut oil. There's oatmeal and "Mexican" bowls with rotisserie Yucatan pork for something a bit heftier.
Milo and Olive
This bright, airy spot by the Huckleberry and Rustic Canyon folks does amazing breakfast items like a Croque Milo with prosciutto, raclette, and sun-dried tomato; a breakfast sandwich with house-cured salmon, creamy scrambled eggs and chives in a croissant; and finally Anson Mills grits & eggs, with either pork belly sausauge or wild mushrooms.
This all-day restaurant caters to hotel guests and locals by serving a solid breakfast option, such as short rib hash, poached eggs & prosciutto, and an omelet filled with market vegetables and fontina cheese.
The Larder at Maple Drive
This quick-serve spot in Beverly Hills does the classics with a twist, including challah French toast, chorizo & eggs with sweet pepper sofrito, queso iberico, and fried potatoes, and breakfast sandwiches filled with sorpressata, scrambled eggs, and fontina cheese.

This Santa Monica favorite on the border of Sunset Park has been serving hearty breakfast dishes to Westside locals, like buttermilk pancakes, the affordable 2+2+2 with eggs, bacon or sausage, and two pancakes, and a Diablo burrito with chorizo, bacon, black beans, and home fries wrapped in a tortilla and served with a spicy sauce.
