Fall is in full swing and Halloween is just around the corner. Luckily, Los Angeles is just the place for Halloween themed events and treats. Of course, the pumpkin craze has sprung again, and what better way to hunt for pumpkin flavored everything and Day of the Dead plans than by looking here first; a list of delicious cocktail options for the adult trick-or-treaters, and various Halloween themed desserts and spooky events to choose from.

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

1. Plan Check Sawtelle will offer a Pumpkin & Spice Latte Donut; a cruller with spiced sugar, whipped candied pumpkin cold brew coffee pastry cream and whipped cream throughout October. Also, Plan Check welcomes anyone itching to carve a pumpkin to stop in anytime during its third annual in-house Pumpkin Carving Contest. This will take place October 17th to October 20th, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Carving tools and pumpkins provided and it’s a free for all–ages contest. Portland’s Salt and Straw’s new location in Larchmont Village is getting in the Halloween spirit with five spooky flavors, like The Chocolate Graveyard; a gruesomely tasty combo of dirty-delicious chocolate ice cream, cake-like chocolate soil, and a ground-smattering of chocolate freckles or Dracula’s Blood Pudding; a heavy mix of spices and cream cooked into real blood pudding and spun in an ice cream laboratory. Other options comprise of Candy Corn and Essence of Ghost, which is a mixture of scotch and vanilla sherbet with black cocoa swirled in.

For a terrifying treat, head over to Playa Del Rey. Playa Provision's Pastry Chef Kristin Feur has created Trick or Treat Ice Cream with vanilla ice cream, snickers, kit kats and candy corn, Worms and Dirt Sundae and classically decorated Halloween cupcakes including Ghost Cupcakes in the style of a classic hi-hat.

Napoléon's Macarons

Napoleon’s Macarons is rolling out candy themed macarons for Halloween week. Options include a Snickers macaron “bar,” an Almond Joy Maca’Leon (chocolate-dipped macaron), and a Candy Corn macaron. Available at the Americana and Westfield Topanga locations starting October 27th. Buy 12 or more macarons and get three Halloween themed ones free.

Cecconi’s in West Hollywood is throwing a Monster’s Ball Bash for Halloween. There will be live music, dancing, food and drink specials all night. The party is free with food and drinks available for purchase. At 9 p.m., the dining room will transform into a dance floor with a live DJ. For guests still craving a full meal, the patio will remain open. Otherwise, Halloween themed selections consist of Roasted Pumpkin, Gorgonzola and Speck Pizza or Fontina, or Black Truffle Burger with Truffle fries. Cocktail specials will include a Pumpkin Margarita with Tequila Anejo, Pumpkin Liquor, Pumpkin Puree, and fresh Lemon. Costumes encouraged.

Gracias Madre will honor Dia De Los Muertos with several food and drink specials. On November 1st, kick that hangover with the hair of the dog in the form of a shot and a beer. Guests will receive a pint from the restaurant’s fall draft selection paired with a vegan cucumber mint margarita Jell-O shot in the shape of a skull. It will be served with spicy chili salt and a cucumber wheel. Additionally Pan de Muerto, traditional sweet bread used on altars will be available for brunch or pumpkin cake with candied pumpkin and piloncillo glaze with vegan cinnamon ice cream will be available all day

41 Ocean Club

Another event to keep in mind is the return of OCI’s National Director of Mixology Rob Floyd to 41 Ocean for his Halloween edition of Cocktail Theatre October 24th to October 29th at 7 p.m. It is described as “The History Channel meets The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” This popular educational tasting series is accompanied by a Halloween show, “Zombie Apocalypse,” headed by Director and 41 Ocean Member Cameron Romero, whose father directed “Night of the Living Dead.” Admission is $125, but includes five of Rob’s signature cocktails and three food pairings by Chef Jimmy Martinez. For non-drinkers, admission is $50 and includes three food pairings plus five non-alcoholic cocktails.

Sonoma Wine Garden

Sonoma Wine Garden is a hosting a costume party from 9pm to 1:30am. For $50, attendee's will get entry and a Rob FLoyd inspired complimentary cocktail. One can ball out and purchase a VIP couch for $1,000 which includes 10 tickets, a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka, a bottle of Partida Tequila and an exclusive appetizer buffet.

If a Halloween show doesn’t sound convincing, how about a bar crawl downtown? Fortunately, Halloween is on a Friday this year, so Acme Crawloween will feature five downtown LA bars with themed parties, costume contests and be free of any cover charges. Starting at 7 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., people can choose from Library Bar’s Villains Bash, Sixth Street Tavern’s Zombie Prom and other bars like Beelman’s Pub, Spring St. Bar, and King Eddy Saloon. Crawloween is unique because all locations exist within a few square blocks of each other, allowing participants to come and go as they please.

Firefly Studio City

Firefly in Studio City will transform its restaurant into an eerie haven for Halloween partygoers. Starting at 5p.m., dinner service will remain the same but festive dishes and cocktails to choose from include; Liquid Eye Ball Ravioli, or for dessert, Listen to Me (a peanut butter and white chocolate mousse “ear” dripping with raspberry and black currant “blood”). Halloween cocktail options will be The California Pumpkin with spiced rum, house made pumpkin spice syrup, lemon and orange juice, candied ginger, with a cinnamon sugar rim and garnished with a slapped sage leaf or Blood of Thieves with Larceny Bourbon Antica Formula, orange bitters, Red Lillet, garnished with a luxardo cherry. Lastly, for something mellower, Brandyn Tepper has created a couple of Halloween cocktails at Hinoki & the Bird. The Thriller is made with rye whiskey, aged rum, cinnamon, sweet vermouth and bitters and Howl at the Moon, consisting of mezcal, blood orange, lime and yellow chartreuse. If a drink is all one needs to celebrate Halloween without overdoing it, Hinoki has it covered.
