Both locations of The Fat Dog will be open for brunch from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., and its regular menu until 5 p.m. For those in or around West Hollywood or North Hollywood, bartenders will serve its signature Bloody Mary for $6, with the kitchen providing chicken fried chicken with sausage gravy, biscuit, topped with a sunny side up egg. And as always, bring the pups for its dog-friendly patio.

Those in Pasadena for the Tournament of Roses Parade or the football game, Meat District Co. is open for brunch from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. It’s likely to be a hot spot on January 1, as thousands descend from the parade route for grub and cocktails.

In an act of New Year’s Day empathy, Little Dom’s will offer breakfast all day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. This casual Los Feliz eatery will serve everything from breakfast pizzas to house-made pastries, or blueberry ricotta pancakes.

Both Momed’s will serve brunch starting at 11 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The difference are the drinking options, with the full bar at Momed Atwater serving spicy Bloody Marys, and beer and wine at the Beverly Hills branch. Both kitchens have one of the city’s best shakshouka’s, and a hangover meatballs dish with in a spicy tomato ragu, poached organic egg, micro-greens, dates, and toasted ciabatta.

Milo & Olive brings in New Year’s Day at 9 a.m. with dishes like the breakfast pizzas and a warm grain bowl until 11 a.m. After breakfast winds down, it’s on with lunch and dinner including, chicken meatballs, handmade pasta, pork belly sausage, and kale pizza. Wash it down with the wintery ‘Tis the Sangria.

There’s a special New Year’s Day menu at Esters Wine Shop & Bar. From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., start with the Mimosa Trio, a full bottle of prosecco with a trio of juices for bubbly customization, with food options that include a brioche french toast with seasonal fruit and Bavarian cream, or bagels and lox with cucumber dill yogurt, red onion, capers and lemon.

Meat On Ocean’s 11,000 square foot restaurant is sure to be full of folks washing away a hangover with meat, seafood, and one of MOO’s hearty cocktails. All of it comes comes with an Ocean Avenue and Pacific view, with a side of braised meatballs, or the New York strip steak.

If sunlight and cheery pier walks are in order on New Year’s Day, Pier Burger is the spot. Open from 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., it’s Americana eats on full display with unfussy cheeseburgers, milkshakes, root beer or creamsicle floats, and frozen custards.

On Long Beach’s Retro Row, Lola’s is open all day long on New Year’s Day. It’s a colorful, cheery spot with an outdoor patio and blue corn pancakes, pasilla smoked chilaquiles, and what will go down very well on January 1, huevos rancheros.

In Long Beach, the Social List will keep New Year’s brunch going from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For the unfamiliar, the Social List’s sausages are hand made, the bread is baked on-site, and the food is decidedly comforting. For those that can’t wake up before the afternoon hours, dinner lasts from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m.
