<p>Batalil confirms the Century City landing for Italian food emporium Eataly, which already has locations in Chicago and New York City.</p> <p>Despite an internal confirmation that <b>Eataly</b> <a href="http://la.eater.com/2014/6/16/6206797/confirmed-eataly-is-landing-at-westfield-century-city">would be opening inside Westfield Century City</a>, today Mario Batali <a href="http://www.latimes.com/food/dailydish/la-dd-mario-batali-eataly-westfield-century-city-20140930-story.html">affirmed to the <i>LA Times</i></a> that his massive Italian food emporium would indeed be landing at the outdoor mall in 2017. <a href="http://la.racked.com/archives/2014/06/16/westfield_century_citys_700m_upgrade_tom_ford_eataly_more.php">Coinciding with the Westfield's complete remodel</a>, Batali says that this location will have approximately the same 50,000 square feet as the New York and Chicago outlets, though with rooftop and outdoor seating here in <a href="http://la.eater.com/2014/4/30/6233133/los-angeles-is-one-of-eatalys-next-desired-destinations">LA that wouldn't be possible in colder cities</a>.</p>
<p>Eataly is known for its numerous food court-style restaurants that feature the best from Italy's food canon from seafood and cheese to meats and pasta. In addition, the emporium serves gelato, rotisseries, paninis, baked goods, salumi, and even produce. Insisting that the concept isn't a "chain," Batali tells the Times that LA's Eataly will draw from nearby purveyors and sources to reflect a local flavor.</p>
<p>This marks the third Eataly <span>location in the U.S., though the Oscar Farinetti-founded concept has plans to open everywhere from Moscow, Japan, and Istanbul in the next few years.<br>&#183; </span><a href="http://la.eater.com/tags/eataly">All Eataly Coverage </a><span>[~ELA~] </span></p>

<p><strong>Eataly</strong>, the multi-dimension market and food court that <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2011/03/29/word_on_the_street_eataly_is_coming_to_la.php">has been</a> <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2013/08/23/eataly_could_be_headed_to_westfield_century_city_mall.php">toying</a> around with the city of L.A. with multiple proposed destinations, is <a href="http://la.racked.com/archives/2014/06/16/westfield_century_citys_700m_upgrade_tom_ford_eataly_more.php">finally arriving at the</a> <strong>Westfield Century City</strong> some time in spring of 2017, reports <em>Racked LA</em>. It's all part of a $700M upgrade that the outdoor mall will receive that boasts 422,000 square feet of retail, including new restaurants and a swell outdoor plaza. The idea is to make the Westfield, "a landmark destination truly international in impact and scale." Well, an Eataly certainly helps with accomplishing that.</p>
<p>Eataly had originally planned to open an L.A. <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2011/04/01/joe_bastianich_was_in_la_scouting_eataly_spaces_pretty_sure_he_found_a_location.php">location</a> in 2011 after <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2013/12/02/eataly_tracking.php">launching </a>the New York outlet in 2010, but the team, comprised of Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich, finally confirmed that the city of Angels would be one of Eataly's next <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2012/06/14/sources_say_eataly_has_selected_its_los_angeles_location.php">destinations </a>back in April. Does this location make sense for Eataly? Or would the <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2013/03/07/eataly_in_serious_discussions_to_hit_the_beverly_center.php">Beverly Center</a> or Downtown make better landing zones? <p><a href="http://eater.com/archives/2014/04/30/eataly-announces-expansion-plans-for-nyc-dc-philly-and-la.php">Last night</a>, the <strong>Eataly</strong> team announced plans for expansion in New York (two more mega stores to come), plus locations next headed to Washington, DC, Philly, and Los Angeles.</p>
<p>Rumors have swirled <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2011/03/29/word_on_the_street_eataly_is_coming_to_la.php">for years now</a> about Eataly's growth to Los Angeles and <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2014/01/15/sweet_rose_creamery_beverly_new_food_at_beverly_center.php">possible homes</a> for the epic market and its set of restaurants devoted to Italian product. In fact, just recently, an employee that works within the <strong>Pacific Design Center</strong> told Eater that he was informed within the last month that Eataly is slated to open in the near vicinity. Eater head <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2012/06/14/sources_say_eataly_has_selected_its_los_angeles_location.php">such a rumor about two years ago</a>, but supposedly that deal didn't work out and the Eataly crew began to search elsewhere. Is the PDC an appropriate locale for Eataly? <p>It is still unclear where <strong>Mario Batali</strong> and <strong>Joe Bastianich</strong>'s Italian mega market will land in LA, though until now sources have cited the vicinity near West Hollywood and Mid-City, <a href="http://la.eater.com/archives/2013/03/07/eataly_in_serious_discussions_to_hit_the_beverly_center.php">namely The Beverly Center</a>. Supposedly, Eataly would occupy much of the space that now functions as the food court below Macy's. <br>·<a href="http://brighamyen.com/2013/06/30/eataly-renews-interest-in-downtown-los-angeles-to-open-at-the-bloc/#more-10528">Eataly Renews Interest in Downtown LA, "Serious Discussions" to Open at The Bloc</a> [BY]<br>·<a href="http://la.eater.com/tags/eataly">All Eataly Coverage</a> [~ELA~]</p>
